Allergies are a health problem whose case is often found among children. This condition is caused by an overreaction of the allergen-triggered immune system. Symptoms can include itching, rash, sneezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. However, allergens (allergy-promoting agents) in childhood allergies are not always the same. In general, cases of allergies in children are often triggered by two of the following:
Food
Food allergy is a reaction of the immune system that occurs immediately after eating certain foods. Even eating one bite alone can trigger signs and symptoms such as digestive problems, hives or respiratory problems. In some people, food allergies can cause severe symptoms or even dangerous reactions called anaphylaxis. This life-threatening reaction can lead to a narrowing of the airway, rapid heartbeat, severe blood pressure drop, and loss of consciousness.

In most cases, food allergies in children are often triggered by proteins contained in peanuts, tree nuts (almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia, pecan, pistachio, pine nut, shea nut and walnuts), eggs, seafood, flour, cow's milk, and soybeans. Food allergies can develop at any age, but the case is often found in toddlers.
Dust Mites
Mites are small insects that usually live in the dust of the house. The shape is so small that it can only be seen with a microscope. These insects thrive in a warm and humid environment. In most homes, they live in beds, carpets, and sofas. The dust in the house mixes with the dirt and the decaying mites. In the dirt and body mites that there are proteins that become the culprit of a person experiencing allergic reactions to dust mites.
Allergic reactions of dust mites range from mild to severe. Mild reactions are generally characterized by occasional runny noses, watery eyes, and sneezing. More severe reactions generally result in persistent sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion, to severe asthma attacks. Dust mite allergy is mentioned as one of the factors that trigger an increase in cases of asthma in children. Patients with asthma who also have dust mite allergies may become more difficult in controlling their asthma. They also become more at risk of severe asthma attacks that require emergency medical care.
Allergies in children should not be considered trivial. Because it can attack various body systems, allergies are very risky to interfere with child growth. According to experts, if one parent has a history of allergy, the risk of having an allergy child increases by 50 percent. Allergy symptoms can also appear in various forms and can actually be recognized early on. Among the heavy breathing sounds in infants, colic in infants, reddish spots often appear on the cheeks, ears, and diaper-covered areas, often with a prolonged runny nose, and excessive earwax. If the child shows these symptoms, consult a pediatrician immediately to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.
